"Today I sit here contemplating the world’s conflicts and ailments. Thinking broadly as I observe the world becoming more and more hostile towards peace. We, the United States, are engaged in an international war promoting and protecting our liberties and freedoms from terrorists’ intent on destroying our values. Ironically, as we fight around the world for these values they are slowly dissolving here at home. The very values and principles our nation was founded upon slowly dissolve into mere whispers in dimly lit homes. Things like Habeas Corpus, freedom of speech, privacy, and protection of these rights to minorities and the general public can no longer exist in our fight against terrorism. Politics which are guided by fear and paranoia are shaking the masses into silent submission as our innate and constitutionally enumerated and clearly implied rights disappear. More than 5 years since the cold hearted attacks which shook humanity to its very core we are no safer and secure today then the days just before the attacks. If anything, I honestly believe today we are far less safe and secure from acts of terrorism or the mass deaths of Americans. The President beats his war drum relentlessly as we get closer and closer to the brink of war by each strike of his drum. Explosions in Baghdad tearing innocent bodies to shreds, war exercises in the Persian Gulf as a show of strength, and tests thrusting missiles into the atmosphere creating fear, all the while nation’s leaders continue to beat their drums faster and harder. Like a symphony building up to a crescendo, rather than musicians we have soldiers and their instruments marching louder and faster towards one-another. And here I am sitting quietly as goose bumps spread across my body while the drums continue to get louder and the sounds of marching becomes so loud it deafens me with fear. The armies marching closer and the drums beating louder and in a moment of frantic terror and fear I let out a yell. . . . STOP!!! An eerie silence fills the air, and a cold breeze passes through the armies as they stand across facing each other. The cold reality of what is happening quickly opens the eyes of everyone. The realization of the imminent destruction of humanity strikes the nation’s leaders for a split second….Then with the single heavy strike of the drum all is done. Peace is achieved yet there are only dead bodies and an ash filled sky to observe it. "
