Serious Issue!!!
A Danish Magazine has published a series of obscene comics ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Twelve offensive caricatures were published in September 30, 2005 and republished again on January 10, 2006 in a Norwegian Christian Magazine. The Norwegian and Danish governments have both refused to apologize or retract the publications.
In response, Islamic countries have shut down their Danish and Norwegian embassies, recalled their ambassadors from the region, and are declaring massive boycotts of all Danish and Norwegian products. The two countries remain defiant, and have persisted in publishing obscenities against Prophet Muhammad (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). France, Spain, Italy, and Germany have also printed these cartoons as a challenge to the Muslims worldwide.

Ambassadors of Denmark, and France,
I greet you with the traditional greeting of Islam: may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you.
I am writing in regards to the recent publications by the Danish news agency Jyllands-Posten. A series of twelve highly offensive and degrading cartoon caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) have been the center of recent international controversy, and rightly so. These cartoons have slandered a religious figure, insulted the over one billion adherents to Islam, and have created an international incident that is quickly creating factions. Rather than using the newspaper as an instrument to educate and spread truth, Jyllands-Posten has mocked the most beloved leader of Muslims worldwide. Muslims cannot stay silent when seeing such an attack on their beliefs.
One of these cartoons has the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) wearing a turban, that resembles a bomb, wrapped around his head. These images reinforce the negative stereotype that Muslims are terrorists. I know that all of the Muslims who have read, viewed or learned of this news are equally saddened and disturbed by this lack of sensitivity. These images are obviously meant to discriminate and provoke.
Jyllands-Posten cannot justify its actions by hiding under the guise of freedom of speech; by publishing cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), respect was not shown to the rights of others to their faith, dignity, honor and principles. It is universally held that the right to free speech is limited when attacking the rights and beliefs of others—in this case, this is outright libel against a figure who is significant to over twenty percent of the world’s population.
Undoubtedly, what the Danish newspaper published is harmful also for the more than two hundred thousand Danish citizens, who will suffer as a result of their government’s lack of propriety and honor. I am fully endorsing the international boycott of Danish products, and joining the millions of citizens around the world in demanding an immediate retraction of the cartoons.
Furthermore, the recent republishing of these cartoons by papers in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain is morally reprehensible. I stand with the global Muslim community in condemning their provocative attacks on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). An apology cannot make up for their utter disregard for the beliefs of others. We call upon the United Nations to pass a resolution demanding that respect be shown to other people’s beliefs and faith, in order to promote tolerance and peace. This widespread effort to dehumanize the Muslim faith will not be accepted by Muslims. We will continue our massive civil disobedience and boycott.
Denmark, and the European countries that have sided with it, must deal with this issue justly. If they do not, they will continue to be seen as a region wracked with Islamaphobia, without regard to its citizens multi-faceted belief systems, and bent on creating conflict.
For the cause of justice, equality and respect for all faith traditions, I hope this matter is dealt with promptly and equitably. I look forward to hearing positive news.

subHan Allah. Can you just imagine if the boycotts of all these companies you've listed was as successful as the boycott of the Danish food company that lost all its Middle East sales in a matter of 5 days?
All these automakers, clothing companies, tech-companies, etc....al-Hamdu lilLah, there's so many now, that we can take part in the boycott here now as well in a big way. T-Mobile will probably be the hardest hit, in sha' Allah. Tell all your T-Mobile friends to cut off their services and switch to Verizon or something.

The problem with most politically oriented cartoons is that although "a picture is worth a thousand words", the cartoonist has no way of knowing exactly which "thousand words" his picture will invoke in the minds of its readers.
Although I personally shrug-off anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying cartoons, I do understand why someone else might not; so, too, with Muslims.
However, boycotting Danish foods, beverages, and whatnot is a waste of time and petrodollars. The bulk of their markets are in Europe and North America, and sales to Arab countries are minimal, at best. How many Muslims are going to stop buying Danish brie, for goshsakes? How many Muslims eat Danish brie?! You could stop reading the newspaper(s) in which those cartoons were printed, but I doubt they're available outside of Europe, and just how many Muslims read Danish, anyway?
If you were my daughter in college (and I have a daughter in college), I would tell her to buy Israeli-made brie, rather than Danish (she's in Israel), send an email message or two to the newspaper's publisher, and take a pass on the demonstrations.
As we say in Hebrew: חזקי ואמצי (be strong and brave)... and study hard.

It is our right to know what your stance would be if someone were to have the same shameless audacity with prophet of the Jews or your prophet if you happen to have one.
Even though we are capable of doing or saying much more than what you’ve said and done regarding the religion you glorify and the things you believe to be sacred. Our religion teaches us that we must respect and believe in all prophets and there scriptures: (we do not differentiate between any of the messengers).

I really liked how you started your comment with, "a picture is worth a thousand words" ... subHan Allah, definitely what may be offensive to one person may not be offensive to another, and it is very important to have sensitivity and compassion towards other people and their beliefs and values.
I would like to comment that although anti-semetic holocaust denying images are very offensive to Jews and those who witnessed the holocaust, I personally believe that it's not as horrible as attacking a religion. For example, you won't see mass riots over cartoons depecting the Muslims as terrorists, although that is offensive as well... having a cartoon attacking a religion is a whole nother ball game.
Although the impact of boycotting these products isn't going to get them out of business, it does at least bring to their attention that their action is something that does not pass easily with Muslims.

You mentioned an ayah I love in surah al Bakarah, verse 285 I believe it was, about like you said, "we do not differentiate between any of the messengers." and al-Hamdu lilLah this is just "one" of the reasons Muslims respect the prophets of the Jewish and Christian religions.

Please change it, that statement you made is a lie, and it will make even more hate from muslims towards christians than the koran teaches, and not to forget the hadits.
And please post the koran verse where it is said that muhammed is not to be made as a painting. I want to know.

As far as the cartoon is conserned here are some verses and selected sayings of the prophet I would like to share:
Most surely this is the true explanation, and there is No God but Allah; and most surely Allah-- He is the Mighty, the Wise.
( سورة آل عمران , Aal-e-Imran, Chapter #3, Verse #62)
And (as for) those who believe and do good, and believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad, and it is the very truth from their Lord, He will remove their evil from them and improve their condition.
( سورة محمد , Muhammad, Chapter #47, Verse #2)
Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet entered the Ka'ba and found in it the pictures of (Prophet) Abraham and Mary. On that he said' "What is the matter with them ( i.e. Quraish)? They have already heard that angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures; yet this is the picture of Abraham. And why is he depicted as practicing divination by arrows?" (Book #55, Hadith #570)
Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar : Allah's Apostle said, "Those who make these pictures will be punished on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them. 'Make alive what you have created.'" (Book #72, Hadith #835)
I started with a couple of verses from the Qur'an to explain that before I say anything Allah is the one who knows everything, and that in the Qur'an we have been commanded by God to believe in what Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) has told us to believe in.
Following that, the two ahadith [saying, actions, of the prophet, also includes matters in which he approved upon, didn't approve upon...]that we must follow due to the fact it goes in accordance with the Qur'an in that we follow the commandments of the prophet (pbuh).
From the hadith's we can see the example of when the Quraish [an Arabian tribe] made a picture of prophet Abraham (peace be upon him)and the prophet (pbuh) on seeing this asked, "what is wrong with them?" .. so obviously there is something *wrong* in the matter.
And, I also included a hadith about how picture making is not something glamorized in Islam.
God willing, I will stop here, see how you respond if you do respond, and from there... i'll say more.

I have to say that none of the verses say Muhammed is not to be made in any painting. I have read them, and some other hadits about pictures before. There are also in fact pictures of Muhammed made by muslims from around 800AD. I dont know but maybe the hadits was not written at that time, maybe you can help me with that?
If the painters will be punished at the Day of Resurrection, why do many muslims punish the nations where the pictures are published in some newspapers, is it not enough if Allah punishes the painters at doomsday?
Is there maybe something that says that, anyone that looks at a moving picture (movie) will be punished? Do you have a TV, i see that you have a computer, is that not a sin to have that in Islam?

Let me begin by saying I am enjoying your questions, and the curious mind that you are presenting me with.
I actually have heard of the paintings of the prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him) that were painted in past.
You are right, in that, there is not a specific verse that specifically says "do not show the face of the prophet (pbuh)" ... however, it is common knowledge upon followers of Islam to not show an image of the prophets.
Not too long ago, a series on FOX television called "30 days" came on TV in which a man were to live 30 days as a Muslim. In that documentary, when they were trying to explain Islam, they did show a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Although, there were Muslims that objected to this, it was an act that was understood that was done (hopefully)with good intent.
The situation with the cartoon that came out recently with the prophet(pbuh)being humiliated.Was taken as an attack on the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who is deeply loved and respected by Muslims. Obviously something that is taken as an attack on the prophet (pbuh) will not be taken lightly by Muslims.
Furthermore, when Judgement Day comes, Allah is the one who will judge us all... and although the painters of this cartoon will be judged, those who witnessed this cartoon will also be judged... that is why I find it important for me to be against this cartoon.
As far as the television and the internet is concerned, both can be used with good intentions and with God consciousness. There is a level of modesty and moderation that should be kept in mind when in front of the internet or in front of a television or movie screen. God will judge us on our intentions and on how we acted. May we all be guided to do what is good.
