Sharon 'to quit Likud party'
huh? that's weird.
So now he's associated with the "National Responsibility" .. or in Hebrew "Achrayut Leumit" [thank you Mr. Horen]. This is supposedly a centrist Israeli political party. Centrist as in promoting moderist policies... hmm... interesting.

Likud Party?
from my understanding the likud party is for the israeli settlements, and it keeps with the revisionist zionism... revisionist zionism is like going back to theodor hertzl and his zionist plans of creating a jewish state, so I guess you can say that the revisionist zionism is pretty much a political zionism... it's just odd to me how first Sharon called for the settlers to leave Gaza, and now there's a rumor he's quiting the Likud party... i'm just confused.

The correct name (transliterated Hebrew-to-English) for Sharon's new party is "Achrayut Leumit", which means "National Responsibility". Doubtful. The Jerusalem Post has some pretty good stuff about him, without many punches pulled.
No matter where you stand (politically and/or geographically), Arik Sharon is not trustworthy. I say this as one who spent 25 adult years there, as an ex-pat American emigrant, and who voted for the Likud party in the last Israeli elections, only to see Sharon disenfranchise us (vis-a-vis his transfer of Israeli citizens from Gaza). Others might say it regarding his "exploits" in Lebanon.
If you return here, do you mind elaborating on how you feel about the political situation in that region of the middle east? And if you wish, I would like to know what your thoughts on the settlements in the West Bank are. Thank you.
