why I don't like diamonds...

Have you ever wondered how a diamond ends up at your local retailer?

Many of the world's diamonds come from a small country in West Africa called Sierra Leone. There is an ongoing Civil War at Sierra Leone between African guerillas over diamonds. These rebels get diamonds 'by any means necessary' in order to sell them for money to buy weapons.

These ruthless guerillas will resort to the cruelist forms of violence, including chopping off hands in order to secure a single diamond.

Who benefits from this Civil War? The Diamond Industry.

By providing money for weapons to these guerillas in exchange for the diamonds, they are helping to sustain the violence and chaos in this country.

The diamond industry makes upwards to 50 billion dollars a year - while Sierra Leone benefits NOTHING from the profits.

The worst part of it all - innocent children are recruited by the guerillas to fight each other, many of them dying in the process.
