al-Hamdu liLlah for al-Qur'an.. -smiles-

In the Name of Allah, the Ever-Merciful, the Mercy-Giving!

1.
Lā 'uqsimu biyawmi al-Qiyāmahti.

I swear by the Day of Resurrection;

2.
Wa Lā 'uqsimu bin-Nafsi al-Lawwāmahti.

And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).

3.
'Ayaĥsabu al-'Insānu 'allan najma`a `ižāmahu.

Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?

4.
Balá Qādirīna `alá 'an Nusawwiya banānahu.

Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.

5.
Bal yurīdu al-'Insānu liyafjura 'amāmahu.

Nay! (Man denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So) he desires to continue committing sins.

6.
Yas'alu 'ayyāna Yawmu al-Qiyāmahti.

He asks: "When will be this Day of Resurrection?"

7.
Fa'idhā bariqa al-Başaru.

So, when the sight shall be dazed,

8.
Wa Khasafa al-Qamaru.

And the moon will be eclipsed,

9.
Wa Jumi`a ash-Shamsu wa al-Qamaru.

And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.)

10.
Yaqūlu al-'Insānu Yawma'idhin 'ayna al-Mafarru.

On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?"

11.
Kallā Lā Wazara .

No! There is no refuge!

12.
'Ilá Rabbika Yawma'idhin al-Mustaqarru.

Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.

13.
Yunabba'u al-'Insānu Yawma'idhin bimā Qaddama wa 'akhkhara.

On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).

14.
Bali al-'Insānu `alá nafsihi başīrahtun.

Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds].

15.
Wa law 'alqá ma`ādhīrahu.

Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).

16.
Lā tuĥarrik bihi Lisānaka Lita`jala bihi.

Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur'an, O Muhammad) to make haste therewith.

17.
'Inna `alaynā Jam`ahu wa Qur'ānahu.

It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it (the Qur'an),

18.
Fa'idhā Qara'nāhu fa ittabi` Qur'ānahu.

And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad through Gabriel], then follow you its (the Qur'an's) recital.

19.
Thumma 'inna `alaynā bayānahu.

Then it is for Us (Allah) to make it clear to you,

20.
Kallā bal tuĥibbūna al-`Ājilahta.

Not [as you think, that you (humankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but (you men) love the present life of this world,

21.
Wa tadharūna al-'Ākhirahta.

And leave (neglect) the Hereafter.

22.
Wujūhun Yawma'idhin Nāđirahtun.

Some faces that Day shall be Nadirah (shining and radiant).

23.
'Ilá Rabbihā Nāžirahtun.

Looking at their Lord (Allah);

24.
Wa Wujūhun Yawma'idhin bāsirahtun.

And some faces, that Day, will be Basirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad),

25.
Tažunnu 'an yuf`ala bihā fāqirahtun.

Thinking that some calamity was about to fall on them;

26.
Kallā 'idhā balaghati at-Tarāqī.

Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),

27.
Wa Qīla man Rāqin.

And it will be said: "Who can cure him and save him from death?"

28.
Wa Žanna 'annahu al-Firāqu.

And he (the dying person) will conclude that it was (the time) of departing (death);

29.
Wa at-Taffati as-Sāqu bis-Sāqi.

And leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded)

30.
'Ilá Rabbika Yawma'idhin al-Masāqu.

The drive will be, on that Day, to your Lord (Allah)!

31.
Falā Şaddaqa wa Lā Şallá.

So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur'an, in the Message of Muhammad) nor prayed!

32.
Wa lakin kadhdhaba wa tawallá.

But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur'an and the Message of Muhammad) and turned away!

33.
Thumma Dhahaba 'ilá 'ahlihi yatamaţţá.

Then he walked in full pride to his family admiring himself!

34.
'Awlá laka fa'awlá.

Woe to you [O man]! And then (again) woe to you!

35.
Thumma 'awlá laka fa'awlá.

Again, woe to you! And then (again) woe to you!

36.
'Ayaĥsabu al-'Insānu 'an yutraka Sudan.

Does man think that he will be left Suda [neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allah) on him]?

37.
'Alam yaku Nuţfatan min manīyin yumná.

Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female discharge of semen) poured forth?

38.
Thumma Kāna `alaqatan fakhalaqa fasawwá.

Then he became an 'Alaqa (a clot); then (Allah) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.

39.
Faja`ala minhu az-Zawjayni adh-Dhakara wa al-'Unthá.

And made him in two sexes, male and female.

40.
'Alaysa Dhālika biqādirin `alá 'an yuĥyiya al-Mawtá.

Is not He (Allah Who does that), Able to give life to the dead? (Yes! He is Able to do all things).
